General impression

When you have a lot of different skis at your disposal, you constantly ride and test different models of different brands, it rarely happens that any one ski impresses you so to ride only them all the time. Skiing areas and snow conditions change, and every day you are more and more interested: what else can it do?

"95 millimeters at the waist, the Wreckreate is a cool, fun and combat tool (for all occasions, create thif you want all over the mountain, trails, off-piste, park - everything is yours. We don't believe in one ski for everything, but if you want one, check out the Lib Tech Wreckreate NAS< strong> 2016" - write the creators.

Sounds like an ad, but after riding these skis for over two months in a variety of conditions, I completely agree with this. Wreckreate - damn nimble, comfortable and omnivorous ski. A wonderful daily transport for a freeride school coach. That is, for me. All this winter I work for them everywhere and everywhere, I don’t get off.

Features of form and construction

The skis are quite light, a traditional American ski-hand-made sandwich of poplar (aspen) and multilayer fiberglass with sidewalls of high molecular weight plastic. The design includes an additional anti-vibration layer, plus some more internal Power Transfer Internal Sidewalls, quasi-isophoric fiberglass power layers and their own adhesives. Lib Tech calls the construction "correct sandwich" in his snooty promotional style. But you immediately forget about advertising-self-promotion, from the first minutes you feel that under your feet are alive, evenly elastic, stable, powerful and obedient skis with a very original character.

Shape: Traditional, mid-height camber with fairly long, gently sloping rocker at the front and slight rocker at the back. The contours of the ski are smooth, the toe and heel are rounded, the heel is narrowed. The radius is average, "cruiser", 15 m for 171 cm in length. It is worth noting the feeling of lightness on the foot, the skis are well balanced. I am not a park skier, but there is no doubt that they can spin figures in the air. At low edge angles, the skis easily let go of the edges and spin quickly on the flat, you can even side-slide at speed in the snow, a la the Mac Conkey turn, which is a surprise for a waist 95 with a low, “all -mountain”, rocker. And if you put your skis on a high edge angle, then under you there is a long edge, on which you can bring down the icy blacklike on a real GS-cutter, without fear of falling off the arc.

Edge gripexplicitly adds Magne- Traction - the famous wavy edge, patented invention of Lib Tech< span>. Kant has several smooth stupas-“teeth” ins, the skis along the edge look like a bread knife. Such an edge “cuts” ice and hard snow. Magne traction adds stability to Lib Tech snowboards and works just as well on their skis.

Routes

December and January I skied in the Alps, Italy, Livigno and the Dolomites. Winter did not spoil the Alps with snow during these months, but the frosts were strong. The tracks were hard and icy, and outside the tracks there was solid and ruthless "concrete" everywhere. Wreckreate got full ice on the evening black slopes in Livigno on Mottolino, where we skated all week, and then in January in the Dolomites on the black slopes of Alba, Marmolada, Val di Fassa.

In the Dolomites off-piste no snowat all, our freeride school is probably strange looked on the "shovels" with rockers, and I carelessly blissed out on my "toothy" Wrecks with a waist of 95. On tracks of all types, up to ice, the skis behave on the edges beyond praise. Short slalom turns with speed control, long GS turns at high speeds or imposing carving on fresh soft velveteen, everything is a pleasure. Skis cut well from the toe, hold the arc neatly and have an active, pleasant return at the exit. When driven at high edge angles, they do not lubricate the end of the turn at all, despite the rocker in the tail.

If you push less hard, the tail can slip a little, but I didn’t feel any concern about this, because the middle of the ski, where the teeth are magnetic, does not break, and the toe clearly enters the cut arc from above, if you load the edge in time and stand in the center. Wreckreate is quite lenient on errors. Skis have a large p areabalance, they don't "kick" like slalom skis. But at the same time, they reward with a bright ride on the edges, if you work in a clear slalom technique.

Complex, variable snow and crusts

The last snowfall in Livigno was in November, a month before we arrived, but around the slopes on the north side of the valley, the Mottolino ski area, there were white fields, that seemed unrefined. They were crossed by rare traces of skis and no one drove there. It was worth pulling off the track, and it immediately became clear why. The snow there was very difficult, a hard washboard, and, moreover, completely covered with crusts. The crusts were of all kinds: windy, sunny, inflated, submerged, breaking through, with deep loose snow under them, any. There is no more difficult skiing for a skier: the crust is insidious, insidious, clings to skis, stretches legs, and an inept skier can easily get injured there.

We were the only ones to ride off-piste in Livigno in December - it's a freeride school, baby! ? - and in a week our students gained a lot of experience and learned to cope with crusts and washboards. As for the of my Lib Tech Wreckreate NAS 2016, it is hard snow it was easy. The skis dampen vibrations well, I could keep high edge travel on a hard uneven surface and, if necessary, instantly lift the skis off the slope, they are very jumpy. There were strange patches on Mottolino where the snow had been worked with snowcat treads but not smoothed out with brushes, probably a measure of snow retention. It was, in fact, a washboard of pieces of ice and hard snow, and it had to be driven over to get to a far section under the rocks, where the deepest snow was preserved in the shade - however, also under the crust. The slope there was "black". At first it was scary to drive on the washer, but it turned out that I can safely ski on the edges, with short cut arcs - my socks did not knock down, and the vibration under the foot remained tolerable.

In the crust on top of deep snow, you had to shootI am aggressive and careful at the same time. Hold the skis together, edge aggressively from the toe, breaking through the crust, pressing and pulling the legs. They cut the crust, easily bounced off the loose snow under it, carefully carried it up, did not cling to anything - everything is clear, even and predictable. I appreciated the smooth shape of the rockers and the rounded shape of the toe and heel. If necessary, they can cut sharply, and release the edge just as quickly. "Revenge with heels" in narrow passages is a pleasure. Our Podobovets in Karapty is famous for such passages, the forest is crossed by old horse roads, in winter they turn into narrow and deep "pipes". There you need to ski flat, twist. The plastic Wrecks, with their tapered, rounded rocker tail, behave like snakes in such a ride.

Broken deep snow (split) and mounds

Podobovets/Pylypets Resorts on the Borzhava Ridge in Transcarpathia is a real freeride training ground, and it is no accident that our freeride school is based here. It's full

unused slopes. Snow in the Karapts this season, finally, was poured enough and in several passes. A couple of days after a snowfall, the velvet cover of virgin lands on steep, more than 30 degrees, sections in the Center turns into a threatening mess of broken snow, into which most are simply afraid to drive. The Wreckteate is light, the socks are quite soft, there is no metal in it, and you don’t expect any special penetrating abilities from it. But he is not afraid of raskolbas at all. Broken snow, unless it is completely frozen into lumps, is cut from the toe, even in a short, even in a long arc, and the course remains even, the skis do not knock down. The damping properties of the ski are worthy of special praise.

The bumps on the Wreckteate are a treat. This is to be expected, it is worth looking at the shape of the ski with its short camber and smooth, elastic, but not stiff tail. The skis turn instantly and are very light on the feet. You can cut bumps in a short slalom turn, you can “revenge with tails” in the mogul technique, you can accelerate and jump - it's up to you. On difficult and uneven terrain, skiing inspires fast, fun and technical skiing.driving in any style you want. This is their forte and their element, here their universal qualities are manifested most clearly.

Virgin lands and forest

In January, we returned from the snowless Alps to the Carpathians, where all the snow seemed to have fallen on New Year's and Christmas that did not reach the Alpine resorts. In Podobovets, half a meter of virgin soil was everywhere outside the tracks, especially in the forest. There were sunny frosty days, and the snow was no longer powder, but still light and fluffy. The Wreckteate with its 95mm waist is not a powder ski at all, there are plenty of wide skis in our badASS test center, but these days I prefer to stay on the Liebtechs. It was very interesting for me to test them in virgin lands. And I didn't regret it. The skis ride great in puffy, if you work in the classic "dolphin turn" technique. Kember easily pushes them up, easy edging, pressing, picking up - a virgin turn of medium radius is done as in a textbook. When picking up moves, in long arcs, you should be careful on edge changes, yet there is only 95 mm under the foot. If you lead your legs together and clearly keep a uniform weight distribution on both legs, then turns on the moves in virgin soil do not cause problems. During freeride trips to Gemba, where there are vast untouched fields on a good slope, I was surprised and delighted when I found out that at speed on Wreckteate you can also afford McConkey turns - to put skis in a side slip over the snow , then turn over, lay on its side and “shoot” into a new arc. The rounded, tapered tail and the shape of the rear rocker allow the ski to plan in the snow, if you allow yourself to accelerate as it should.

When another snowfall passed, this time in temperatures close to zero, I ran the Wreckteate in heavy and wet virgin soil. It was, perhaps, more difficult, it required even more attention so as not to transfer or sink one of the skis at the time of the edge change. But the “dolphin twist” works great here too. The middle of the ski is extremely resilient, and there is no problem pushing the skis completely out of the snow if it is too tight and turning them in the air… In the middle. On February, during a strong warming, the snow in the forest became especially viscous, and I used this technique with might and main, having fun spinning in the forest space among beech trunks. Forest skiing is a hit number on Borzhava with its beech groves without undergrowth, and the nimble Wreckteate is simply born for such a ride.

Summary (for whom these skis)

I am very happy with Lib TechWreckteate NAS 2016 as skis for every day. In my work as a ski coach all-mountain (the word all-mountain more accurately describes the nature of our work than romantic "freeride"). Day after day, we teach our clients the art of skiing on everything that is on the mountain: tracks, hillocks, difficult and broken snow, virgin lands, forests ... On the same day, the conditions in which my skis find themselves can change, like in a kaleidoscope . And I also need skis that do not tire when you go skiing every day, week after week, all winter. Lib Tech Wreckteate NAS 2016 fits my needs perfectly.
