Review of Airush Union 2017 from five-time champion of Ukraine Andriy Salnyk

Every year, kite marketers like to scare us with the fact that the model of the kite or board has been completely redesigned. And although I understood that Airush was run by real professionals and would not risk radically changing perfectly finished models, I still had some anxiety in anticipation of the 2017 lineup.

I can reassure you that the shape of the kite did not change at all. Everything remained just as perfect. In 2017, the changes are mainly cosmetic: at first glance, only the colors of the kites and backpacks have changed)) Probably the most noticeable change in 2017 is the shorter dome bridle lines of the kite. It was really very long and sometimes gave trouble. Now even I do not know what else to improve. Well, just perfect. Well, here's a kite for everyone and everyone. A kite for every riding condition and every need. Probably, there has never been such a versatile kite in the history of kite building. In any case, I never held a more multifunctional kite in my hands, and I had to ride almost all the leading models of all leading manufacturers. Despite the fact that I tested them myself and taught them to completely different people in different conditions, the sample turned out to be very serious.

If you haven't tried Union yet, I can assure you that you will be pleasantly surprised. It only takes a couple of hours to ride this kite in good conditions and you will never switch to another model again. Union gives a real feeling of unity of your will with the kite. It's not like driving a sports car. Driving the Union is more like driving an executive supercar that will easily overtake any sports car, but at the same time give a feeling of comfort and luxury.

Who is this kite for?

Practically for any raydera, with the exception of very beginners. It works amazingly well for waveriding or freestyle riding as well as relaxed sunset riding. Both "weightless" girls and real heroes are comfortable at Union.

In order not to be so cloyingly sweet, I will add a drop of bitterness to you: due to the maximum lightweight design and thin cylinders, Union does not restart from water as quickly and easily as Lithium. If you've been riding for a bit already, restarting won't cause any problems. In any case, this model starts from the water much better than many of its classmates, but in the hands of a beginner it sometimes sticks to the water and requires several attempts to restart.

Let me share a little secret)) :

- If you want maximum traction from Union:

For example, you ride in extremely weak wind conditions or your weight is more than 95 kilograms - you should lengthen the lines by 2-3 meters;

- If you are a professional and you need a kite mainly for intercepting or riding waves, and also if your weight is less than 50 kilograms, then most likely you should shorten the lines by a couple of meters and make the length 21m.

Next Gen Dyneema Load Frame

Airush pioneered the Dyneema Load Frame. There are several advantages at once, and at the same time without compromising the total weight of the kite. Lightweight and strong mesh carries the entire load, preventing stretching of the fabric of the canopy and, at the same time, a significant deterioration in flight performance. V3. 2 Bridle

Incredibly efficient and elegant, the kite's leading edge support system combines several functions at once. It provides the kite with precise control even with the trim fully tightened, which significantly affects the overall safety and expands the kite's capabilities when riding in a larger wind range. Through the V3 line system, very little load is transferred from the kite to the control bar. But it is quite enough to understand in what part of the wind window the kite is at the moment without looking at the kite. The whole secret is in the correct location of the points of attachment of the system to the leading edge of the kite and in the use of roller blocks.

Weight adjustment on the bar

All Airush SLE kites (kites with leading edge support) have the ability to adjust bar weight coming from the kite. The V3 line system is attached to the leading edge of the kite in the same way we attach lines to a kite. By moving the V3 system to adjacent free knots on the front of the kite, you can change the load on the bar as you wish - quickly and conveniently.

XL Inflate /Deflate

It has become much easier and faster to inflate / deflate the kite through a large valve. This becomes especially noticeable when pumping the kite with a pump. Less effort can be applied, and therefore fewer broken pumps!

The whole inflatable frame of the kite is integrated into one system and is inflated through one valve. The air tubes connecting the cylinders to each other have an increased diameter. This not only inflates the kite evenly and quickly, but also deflates very quickly for a compact package. And due to the thickened walls, the tubes are less prone to fracture.

Rear line adjustment

All Airush kites have the ability to quickly and easily adjust the kite's behavior to suit your individual preferences. If the ends to which the control lines are attached are moved closer to the HIGH sign, the load on the control bar will increase, and the speed of the kite turn will decrease. Sometimes this option helps when riding in very strong winds on small kites, 5-7 m. And if you move the tips closer to the trailing edge, then the pressure coming from the kite to the bar decreases, and the wing turns become faster.

Airush Pulleys

Made of Zytel® composite material, the main components of which are fiberglass and crushed kevlar. Zytel® is excellent at high temperatures and does not become brittle at low temperatures. Impact and abrasion resistant. Airush roller blocks have been specially designed for use on your own kites. The holes in the block are designed so that the sling passing through them does not wear out. The tensile strength of each block is 550 kg.

Kevlar reinforcements

All parts of the kite that are most susceptible to abrasion are protected by Kevlar inserts. Kevlar, which is used in the manufacture of bulletproof vests, as well as in the aviation and space industries, reliably protects the kite and at the same time does not affect the overall weight at all. Kevlar fabric is very light, one meter of it weighs only 50-60 grams.
